Testimony by Dawn Gilbert, Assistive Technology Support Officer, Rotherham MBC
In my years working with assistive technologies, few devices have made as significant an impact as the CPR Guardian. Since its introduction at Rotherham MBC in October 2021, we have deployed over 50 units, each one reinforcing our belief in its value for individuals with early-onset dementia.
The CPR Guardian distinguishes itself through its design and functionality. It mirrors the look and feel of a modern smartwatch, making it an appealing accessory that users are happy to wear daily. This design consideration is crucial for technology acceptance, especially in sensitive cases like early dementia, where the maintenance of normalcy and dignity is paramount.
Ease of use is another standout feature of the CPR Guardian. It simplifies the complex technology behind personal safety and health monitoring into an intuitive user experience. This simplicity ensures that the device can be quickly adopted by users and their families, providing immediate benefits in terms of safety and peace of mind.
Our decision to prioritise the CPR Guardian has been reinforced by the positive feedback from Occupational Therapists within the Memory Assessment Service. They recommend it based on its effectiveness and suitability for individuals looking to maintain their independence while managing dementia symptoms.
The device's straightforward setup and minimal maintenance requirements make it a preferred choice for both our team and the families we support. This ease of implementation allows us to focus on what truly matters: enhancing the quality of life for those with dementia and offering reassurance to their loved ones.
The CPR Guardian's role in our assistive technology toolkit is invaluable. Its success in our community highlights the device's potential to significantly improve the lives of individuals navigating the challenges of dementia, providing them with a greater sense of security and autonomy.
